Public Library

ADF is pleased to present the preliminary plans for the Bibliotheque de la Ville d’Aquin. The plans were designed by the architect Gerard Paul who is also a member of the ADF Board of Directors. Plans, elevations, renderings along with a model were presented at our last fundraising diner in October.

The commune of Aquin and its 10 districts (sections communales) has a population of 85,090 habitants. There are 126 educational institutions comprised of 1 pre-school, 92 primary schools, 33 secondary schools. According to data available at the “Inspection Scolaire” of Aquin obtained by ADF, there are approximately 16,000 students enrolled in those schools. None of the schools mentioned offers a library to the students.

Our aim at ADF is to propose a library that will dispense much more than books to the students; it will be a mediatheque, complete with books, films and computers with internet access. It will be a place with programs and activities designed to complement and support the educational system in Aquin and the surrounding regions. ADF will make every effort to link the library with other libraries willing to work with us. Networking with other libraries and having access to their materials will increase the capacity of our library.

With this goal in mind, the Bibliotheque de la Ville d’Aquin is designed to hold approximately 30,000 books. It will contain a cyber café, reading rooms, multi purpose rooms, audio visual rooms, administrative offices and a children’s library.

Physically, ADF would like the building to be as self sufficient as possible with the use of wind power, solar energy, collection of storm water for re-use, natural light and ventilation.

The project is ambitious. ADF wants to propose of model of excellence, and envisions this library as a place where the minds of a new generation of leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals can begin to form. Our children deserve every piece of it.

ADF has launched the first part of a fundraising effort. The goal is to reach 1,000 individuals who will contribute $200.00 to the library fund. Be part of these first 1,000 contributors by sending your contribution today.

We invite you to look at the plans below and we welcome your opinions and feedback.
